• GDTA Strategic Plan 2011 - 2015 Get Involved in Gawler Tennis
GDTA is in the process of putting in place various action groups to ensure the local tennis environment enjoys a sustained future growth. With many of our sports customs, including those in tennis, changing markedly over recent years, much of our traditional weekend culture of sports is not supported as keenly as before. Tennis has to compete with extended working times and a greater choice of sport and leisure activities that can sometimes better fit our busy lifestyles.

With the installation of comprehensive court lighting and improvements in the venue facilities we are be able give better support for our existing groups plus offer a larger variety of tennis playing options with more weekly, night competitions and an extended playing season. To compliment the extra work required to make the most these improved facilities we understand the need for a sound support plan.

Our plan includes creating a fresh range of coaching opportunities, junior development programs, quality venue management and extra participation and competition formats. Visit our GDTA Strategic Plan page and Get Involved with one of our four action groups to support the intrastructure and growth of Tennis in Gawler and surrounding districts.

Develop an Association Coaching Strategy.
First meeting was held 7:30pm, Wednesday, April 20, 2011 - Jacob Room at the Gawler Arms

The association has identified a five year goal to Develop this Association Coaching Strategy.
A working group is now being setup to define actions to work to this goal.
The goal is predominately aimed at junior development, and is expected to include from club volunteers teaching both new and experienced players, through to top professional coaches within our community. It may also include teachers in schools and mums and dads showing their kids how to hit a ball for the first time. Defining what it does cover is expected to be done by the working group. The primary intent of the coaching strategy is that everyone has a shared understanding of development opportunities for kids playing tennis in Gawler and surrounds, how people can assist with these opportunities, and what these opportunities will deliver.
To achieve this, the association aims to define a clear pathway for the development of juniors in the region. Again, to what level will be established by the working group. A pathway for the development of our volunteer coaches will also be provided in the future.

Three potential actions identified for the Coaching Strategy Working Group are:

1. Establish the development goals for players in Gawler & District Tennis Association;

2. Define a player development pathway. By understanding how players will develop the working group can identify how coaches can support this development;

3. Create a position description for the role of Association Coach/Coaching Director. This role will support the Association in the development of a coaching strategy for the association while organising existing and future coaching programs.

The number of actions defined must be done so recognising that not everything can be done in 18 months. Longer term actions may be identified but not pursued in the short term. The most obvious is to develop the final coaching strategy. The first meeting of the Coaching Strategy Working Group was held on April 20, 2011 at 7:30pm in the Jacob Room at the Gawler Arms.
